Back in 2008, I was giving serious consideration to building my own photo gallery website as an easy way of selling all of my stock 3d illustrations. I was very excited about it all, and I even built a mockup of what it might look like. Then it occurred to me: why should I (a visual designer with limited HTML and CSS background) struggle to build a working e-commerce template when there were already some really good pre-built solutions available for purchase? In the end, I decided to use PhotoStore from Ktools.net and I couldn’t be happier. It saved me a ton of time and it was one of the best business decisions I’ve ever made.
Since I went with the Ktools solution, I had no idea what to do with the mockups that I created. Up until now, they’ve sat in my archives aging (not gracefully) and feeling totally neglected. To be honest, they are starting to look kind of dated in an oh-so-2008 sort of way! But I think that there are some elements that can be saved here.
The structure of this homepage is still valid in 2013 terms – it’s just the little details like the bevels and drop shadows that make it look not so fresh. With a little bit of visual design love, this might have a shot at being resurrected. Please take it and give it your best shot!
